Technological solutions for urban conditions
A shared job site is used for two drillings in opposite directions in the area of the railway station in the town of Vratsa. The project is part of the Water Cycle of the town, and the installation of sewer pipes in the densely built-up residential area, with heavy traffic is impossible using an open-cut method.
Thanks to trenchless technologies providing the opportunities for work in limited spaces in urban areas, the laying of the new water and sewer pipes is done without excavation of trenches and without interruption of the traffic in the region.
To achieve the goals of the project, Stroitelna Mehanizatsia AD - the contractor of the drillings applies the trenchless technology Pipe Ramming Using a Pneumatic Rammer. Because of the limited spaces, the job site (6 m deep) is one, and two drillings are implemented from it in opposite directions. One passes under a busy road and is 33 m long, the other - under Sofia-Vidin railway line and is 32 m long. Another difficulty for the drillings are the complicated soil conditions - presence of rubble and large stones - boulders.
